Bright, articulate and full of enthusiasm. These are some words that describe the college students I encountered during a recent recruiting trip to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). This year, Delta Americas was looking to branch out into campus recruiting to find new talent, but also to build our brand in the United States. This is why we ventured to the East Coast to participate in the MIT Asian Career Fair 2019.

This is the first time Delta Americas has formally taken part in a campus career fair and marks the launch of our new university recruitment program. At Delta, we aim to hire the best and brightest. We are looking for well-rounded engineers that have exceptional communication skills, along with the research and technical background. That is because we need our engineers in the U.S. to bridge the gap between the customer in North America and the design teams in Asia. Our engineers are expected to support and communicate succinctly with all parties.

I enjoyed speaking with these talented minds, learning about their challenges but also their triumphs. When I meet a potential recruit, I figure out the individual’s motivations and understand how he or she could fit into the Delta corporate culture, either now or later down the road. Networking is critical to scaling and building companies. At networking events, it’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when. Networking is like planting a seed, and hiring is the harvest.

At MIT, approximately 200 students swarmed our booth, and we collected over 100 resumes. Students hailed from all over the East Coast including storied institutions like Harvard, New York University, Northeastern University and Boston University. The students were attracted to our booth by the wide portfolio of solutions and technologies that is uniquely Delta – featured prominently on colorful poster boards. In addition, we showed a video of our LEED Platinum-certified headquarters in Fremont, California which opened in 2015. The green facility symbolizes Delta’s commitment to fostering a more sustainable world through our innovative products.

Senior Recruiter Dereck Miske
Building upon our power electronics expertise, Delta Electronics has evolved to become a complete solutions provider globally, in a range of technological fields such as building automation and the automotive industry. We are seeking talented minds who can help our company in its upward trajectory. Delta Americas, in particular, is a lean company, which means there is significant opportunity for high impact and personal growth. Here at Delta, you will partner with business leadership in defining your own KPI (key performance index). As a recruiter, this is my key selling point to potential candidates, since they will be working directly with senior managers.

The MIT visit was a collaborative effort with our corporate parent in Taiwan. Charles Chen, the CHRO (chief human resources officer) for Delta Electronics, led our delegation to Boston. While some of the students are seeking jobs and internships in Asia, many others desire to stay in the United States and stake their claim to the American dream. Delta Americas was first established in 1982 in suburban Hayward, California. Today, we are positioned to grow operations in North America and look forward to continuing our campus outreach and other recruiting initiatives.
