Delta Microgrid is an end-to-end smart power supply and management solution engineered to provide greater power resiliency and autonomy for data centers and mission-critical infrastructures.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Is Delta Electronics a Foreign Entity of Concern (FEOC)?

No, Delta is headquartered in Taiwan and is not headquartered in a country currently identified as a covered foreign nation under US FEOC-related regulatory terms. Delta Electronics Americas strictly adheres to US supply chain compliance requirements and ensures all clean energy projects utilizing Delta components remain fully eligible for federal tax credit benefits without running into FEOC restrictions.

2. What is Delta Microgrid?

Delta Microgrid is an end-to-end smart power supply and management solution for mission-critical data centers and enterprises seeking greater power resiliency and autonomy. It integrates power electronics, control systems, energy storage, and management software into a unified architecture that can be customized to address the needs of our customers and partners.

3. Why would an enterprise or infrastructure provider need a microgrid solution?

Due to grid limitations and unique accessibility challenges levied by modern power infrastructures, Delta Electronics has prioritized specific Delta Microgrid applications for key customer and partner verticals:

  • Delta Microgrid for AI Data Centers: Manages load volatility and massive power draws, minimize delays in utility connection queues.
  • Delta Microgrid for Power Producers: Integrates traditional power sources with sustainable, inverter-based energy resources.
  • Commercial & Industrial Applications: Protects hospitals, telecommunications, and financial services from utility cost spikes and outage risks.

4. How is Delta Microgrid different from traditional microgrids?

Traditional microgrids heavily rely on standard UPS systems and diesel backup generators, and operate on low-voltage AC. Delta Microgrid modernizes this architecture through:

  • The Solid-State Transformer (SST) platform: Efficiently links high-voltage utilities to downstream medium and low voltage workloads, leveraging advanced power electronics to provide multidirectional conversion in a smaller footprint than previous line-frequency transformers.
  • Sustainable replacement: Replaces or augments diesel backups with clean energy sources and energy-saving storage systems.
  • Millisecond-level control: Responds under 4 milliseconds to stabilize voltage and frequency.
  • Predictive optimization: Utilizes intelligent forecasting and real-time balancing rather than purely reactive generation

5. What makes Delta Microgrid unique from competitors?

Delta differentiates itself through:

  • Grid-to-Chip expertise: Enables a fully integrated system architecture across every power conversion stage.
  • US-centric manufacturing: Helps reduce exposure to global supply chain disruptions.
  • Detroit “living lab”: Offers a real-world testing environment to pre-validate control architectures before shipment.5
  • Long-term outlook: Supports project bankability through long operating history and global manufacturing scale.

6. What products or components are a part of the Delta Microgrid solution?

The Delta Microgrid solution features a comprehensive suite of hardware and software layers that can be customized to best fit your infrastructure needs:

  • The Solid-State Transformer (SST) platform: Meets the high-density and volatile power demands of modern infrastructure to link high-voltage utilities and downstream computing loads. The Solid-State Transformer is a core technology platform within the Delta Microgrid for AI Data Centers architecture. Unlike traditional line-frequency transformers, Delta's SST leverages advanced power electronics to offer multidirectional conversion and superior intelligence – all in a smaller footprint.
  • Power Conversion System (PCS): Provides bidirectional MW-scale energy storage inversion with an integrated transformer. The PCS is also compatible with major 1500V battery systems and offers rack-level management and cluster-level control.
  • Microgrid Controller / Power Plant Controller: Provides real-time control with rapid response times and multipower source synchronization. Offers plant-level coordination controller for grid-code compliance (IEEE 1547/2800).
  • VTScada SCADA System: Monitors hundreds of thousands of concurrent I/O data points to provide supervisory control and data acquisition and reporting.
  • Energy Management System (EMS): Operates as the core microgrid management and optimization platform.
  • Energy Storage System (ESS): Supports grid regulation, backup, and islanding with millisecond-level physical responses for frequency and voltage stabilization.
  • DC/DC Converter: Serves as bidirectional buck / boost converter and supports a wide DC voltage range: 150-1300 VDC and 500-1500 VDC. Maximum continuous power up to 1500 kW with maximum efficiency >98.5%.
  • Utility PV Inverter: Supports voltage up to 1500 VDC with high compatibility with M10/M12 solar modules.
  • Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC): Ensures 24/7 stable baseload power with up to 85% efficiency (w/ heat recovery).

7. What operational modes does the microgrid support?

The platform switches dynamically depending on grid health and seamlessly transfers between modes without disrupting any downstream loads.

  • Grid-Connected mode: Optimizes financial dispatch and enables lucrative grid services
  • Islanded mode: Operates autonomously with grid-forming stability during external blackouts.

8. Do you have any Delta Microgrid demonstration sites?

Yes, Delta operates several active and proven microgrid installations:

  • “Living Lab” Microgrid-Detroit, MI: A grid-connected, AC-coupled microgrid with a solar PV array supporting Delta’s local office building. It functions as a “live laboratory” and proof-of-concept to help benchmark Delta’s microgrid controller system.
  • *Coming in 2027* Delta Microgrid-Plano, TX: A microgrid supporting an active manufacturing facility to feature Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC).
  • Meadow Park-Dallas, TX: Showcases Delta’s commitment to our partners via hybrid (on-grid/off-grid) BESS microgrid that offers the flexibility and scalability required by our distributed energy future
  • Faraday-Elberta, UT: Focused on PCS deployments and integration of utility-scale energy storage systems.
