Senior Product ManagerThumping music, a ballroom packed to the brim and a dancing parade of people. You would think this was a party. Indeed, this was a gathering to celebrate winners of the ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year 2019 award, hosted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, D.C.
Delta Electronics won ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for the fourth year in a row, and this was also the second year that we achieved the elite “Sustained Excellence” designation. To be a part of this ceremony is truly an honor and symbolizes the great strides that we as a company have made to promote the spirit of ENERGY STAR.
Started in 1992, ENERGY STAR serves as the “government-backed symbol for energy efficiency” for consumers and businesses to make informed decisions on the purchase of products that include household appliances, electronics and industrial equipment, among many others. According to the EPA, ENERGY STAR and its partners have helped American families and businesses “save nearly 4 trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity and achieve over 3 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas reductions, equivalent to taking over 600 million cars off the road for a year.”
At Delta, we continually strive to embody the spirit of ENERGY STAR by building products that encourage a more sustainable future. In fact, Delta’s corporate mission is, “To provide innovative, clean and energy-efficient solutions for a better tomorrow,” addressing key environmental issues such as global climate change. The birth of the Delta Breez ventilation fan a decade earlier demonstrates our commitment to upholding such values.
Our founder, Mr. Bruce Cheng, believed that he could save households energy and money – one bathroom at a time. He told his engineers to come up with a quieter and more efficient exhaust fan. As the world’s largest manufacturer of brushless DC motors, Delta transferred its engineering prowess to the residential bathroom Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) sector, giving rise to Delta Breez.
DC motors use significantly less energy and have a longer lifespan than their AC motor counterparts. Our arrival to the IAQ scene has resulted in other manufacturers now joining efforts to use efficient DC motors in place of energy-sucking AC motors. Today, we are the third largest supplier of residential bathroom fans in the United States and recently marked the milestone of over two million units sold.
Back in the Washington ballroom, I recalled listening to countless stories of success from people across the nation. The theme and feeling was the same: together, we can solve the energy efficiency puzzle.
